“Mr. Speaker, I want to thank my friends in the Congressional Black Caucus for organizing today's special order. But as my colleague, Mr. Engel, as my colleague on the Republican side, and as Dr. Christensen has pointed out, our hearts and thoughts go out to and with those people who by happenstance of going to a movie have lost their lives. Been injured badly. Have lost family members. Have had the confidence of going out and about in this country put at risk. How we lament that loss of life, that loss of confidence, that loss of a sense of safety in their community.

“Again, as I do repeatedly when I rise to speak on issues related to our closest ally in the Middle East, Israel, and the relationship between our two countries to congratulate the Chairman of the Committee, the Gentlelady from Florida, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, for her leadership on this issue and focus on the importance not only of the relationship but on the importance of making sure that Israel is strong and able to defend herself.

"The gentleman knows full well I think you have wasted a lot of time on this House Floor. Wasted a lot of effort on this House Floor knowing full well that [health care repeal vote] had no chance of passage and that you were simply appealing to the base that you were just appealing to. In fact, this gentleman believes what you would do if your bills passed [is] you would take away benefits from millions and millions and millions of people. I think that's incontestable.

“We’re continuing to focus on what we call Make It In America.  That is to say that we're going to make it in America - have success, get jobs, grow the economy, have a more successful economy - if we make more things in America. The President has set forth an agenda to double exports. The way you double exports is to make more things in America. So what we want to do is adopt policies that will focus on expanding our manufacturing sector of our economy. We also want to make it easier to keep jobs in America by giving tax credits, and make it less beneficial to ship jobs overseas.

“This is the 31st or 32nd or 33rd time that they put a repeal bill on the floor. Everybody knows it`s not going to pass. They’re wasting time. They’re not addressing jobs. … [Republicans] want to take away, as you said, health care affordability and accountability and reliability.… They want to take it from millions and millions of Americans. From seniors, from young people, from kids with pre-existing conditions. They want to jerk that away from them and they have absolutely nothing on the table to replace it. They say repeal and replace, but they haven`t had any replacement.”
