WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) today announced his participation in USA Network’s “Characters Unite” public service campaign to promote tolerance and acceptance, and combat social injustice. Whip Hoyer appeared in an “I Won't Stand For...” video campaign as part of Characters Unite Month in February. Whip Hoyer discussed his advocacy to end discrimination against people with disabilities and his commitment to ensuring equality.
“As a nation built upon a foundation of equality and opportunity, I have been proud to advocate for disability rights and increasing access for all Americans,” Whip Hoyer said. “It is our responsibility to remove barriers that prevent everyone in our country from accessing equal opportunities, and to end discrimination against those with disabilities. I was proud to lead the effort to pass the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990, but there is still much work to be done to build a society that promotes tolerance and alleviates the hardships still faced by too many with differing abilities. I’m proud to stand with the ‘Characters Unite’ campaign to proclaim that I won’t stand for discrimination against people with disabilities and to reaffirm my dedication to ensuring a nation of equality, inclusion, and respect.”
