WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) participated in the third annual NOH8 On The Hill event, joining nearly 70 Members of Congress in posing for a portrait to show his support for marriage equality.

“By giving a thumbs-down to hatred, intolerance, and injustice, we reaffirm the principles that make our nation great,” said Whip Hoyer.  “The march toward full equality for all Americans, including same-sex couples who wish to marry, continues.  I was proud to participate in the NOH8 campaign and will keep working to advance the goals in Congress of equality, justice, and full access to the basic freedoms all Americans deserve.”

The portrait of Whip Hoyer was among several released Monday by NOH8 On The Hill as the country awaits Supreme Court rulings on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and California’s Proposition 8.  Over the past three years, 100 Members of Congress and countless other Americans have shown their support for marriage equality by posing for photos as part of NOH8’s ongoing campaign to raise awareness of the effects of the discriminatory nature of DOMA and Proposition 8.
