Yesterday, President Trump released a budget that bankrupts our country and makes it harder for private sector companies to create jobs that allow Americans to get ahead. After borrowing $1.5 trillion to cut taxes for the wealthiest Americans, this budget continues to blow a hole in our nation’s deficit and shift the burden onto the middle class.
  1. Explodes the deficit: President Trump’s budget never balances and adds more than $7 trillion in deficits over ten years, spurred by the $5 trillion deficit-financed GOP tax scam.
  2. Rejects the Bipartisan Budget Act enacted last week: President Trump signed a bipartisan budget agreement that passed the House and Senate and then rejected the budget caps in the agreement, making the document a non-starter from day one.
    • President Trump’s budget also ignores parity for defense and non-defense spending, making our nation less safe by weakening our n diplomatic efforts, and cutting investments in domestic security, including education, medical research, and veterans’ assistance.

  3. Threatens access to health care and slashes Medicare and Medicaid: The Trump budget assumes the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, cuts Medicare by nearly by nearly $500 billion over ten years, and slashes Medicaid by $1.4 trillion, threatening access to care for seniors in nursing homes, children with disabilities, and low-income families.

  4. Undermines the Trump Administration’s own infrastructure proposals: The Trump budget shifts the burden of modernizing our nation’s roads, railways, ports, and airports to state and local governments. The Trump budget further undermines its own goals by slashing budgets for the Army Corps of Engineers and the Department of Transportation.

  5. Leaves America’s working families behind: President Trump’s budget is another attack on working families. After signing a tax bill that gives 83% of the tax cuts to the top 1% of Americans, the Administration’s budget slashes hundreds of billions from workforce development, nutrition assistance, disability programs, and other important programs.

  6. Abandons rural communities: The Trump budget abandons rural communities by defunding the Rural Business and Cooperative Service, which facilitates loans and grants to rural communities. It also strips funding from the Denali Commission, the Delta Regional Authority, and the Northern Border Regional Commission, which allow for targeted infrastructure investments in rural communities.

  7. Defunds job creating programs: President Trump’s budget targets job-creating programs, such as the Manufacturing Extension Partnership, which provides job assistance for small businesses and manufacturers. The budget also targets local economic development by removing funding for the Economic Development Administration.

  8. Jeopardizes America’s public health: Once again, President Trump has put forward a budget that slashes over 20% from the Environmental Protection Agency, including cuts that roll back protections for clean water and air. This year’s budget also cuts programs to improve water quality and restoration projects focused in the Great Lakes and Chesapeake Bay.

The Trump Administration has once again put forward a budget far removed from the priorities of the American people. This budget not only adds to our nation’s deficit, but also makes it harder for America’s working families to get ahead.
