This week, I was disappointed that House Republicans continued their agenda of political messaging instead of substantive legislation. Rather than spending time voting on a gimmick budget bill, House Republicans should have been working with Democrats towards a balanced solution to avert the looming sequester. Without bipartisan Congressional action by March 1st, the automatic cuts known as the sequester will threaten thousands of jobs and our economic stability.  Unfortunately, several Republicans have indicated they support these harmful cuts.  I urge my colleagues to work across the aisle to reach a responsible solution that addresses our fiscal challenges and restores certainty to our economy.

Next week, I am looking forward to hearing President Obama’s State of the Union address. I know the President is committed to working in a bipartisan fashion to restore our economic stability, reduce gun violence, create comprehensive immigration reform, and move our country forward. I am hopeful that as we continue in the 113th Congress, Republicans will work with Democrats towards rational and responsible solutions that address the many challenges facing our nation.

Sincerely yours,
