WASHINGTON - House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in praise of a bipartisan deal to increase the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) Standards in the energy bill being considered by Congress.
"I would like to commend the efforts of Speaker Pelosi, Chairman Dingell, Senators Inouye and Stevens, and the other Members of Congress who have spent countless hours in the critical effort to aggressively increase CAFE standards without jeopardizing American jobs.
"This historic increase is a result of these Members' tremendous expertise, willingness to compromise, and dedication to the larger goal of increasing our nation's environmental, economic and national security.
"I am pleased to have been able to play a role in achieving this bipartisan compromise that will form an essential part of the major energy legislation that I expect to bring to the House Floor next week."
