WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer released the following statement after President Bush spoke at the White House regarding a possible economic stimulus package:
“I was encouraged that President Bush agreed today with Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle that an economic stimulus package is necessary, and that he also recognized we must work together to enact legislation without delay.
“There is a broad consensus that quickly enacting a simple, focused and temporary plan that puts money in the hands of low and middle-income Americans will be the most effective shot in the arm to our nation’s economy.
“I am hopeful that we can come together on the details of a targeted, timely and temporary bipartisan stimulus plan in the days ahead.”
