We’ve been emphasizing the harm of the sequester for weeks and months, but perhaps Republicans need to hear it from someone in their own party. This morning, they got just that.
Today’s wake-up call came from Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, a former Republican congressman from Illinois. Instead of summarizing his frank opposition to the harmful cuts, we’ll let him talk for himself:
“The president has put forward a solution to avoid these cuts. As a former member of Congress of 14 years, I urge my former colleagues to address this issue when they get back next Monday and to work on a long-term, balanced solution to our deficit challenges.” [Washington Post, 2/22]
“I’m telling [Republicans] to come to the table and start talking to Democrats about how we solve this.” [POLITICO, 2/22]
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
