“I’m proud to join Americans across the country in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. From our earliest days, Latinos have contributed to building a strong America and fighting to ensure that our nation lives up to the full promise of its democracy.

“In government service, business, entertainment, the arts, education, and every other field, Hispanic Americans have made incredible contributions to our national life. At this very moment, tens of thousands of Latino men and women in uniform are serving our country around the world, and I join in honoring their courage and sacrifices and in remembering those who have given their lives in defense of our freedom.

“I am proud to work closely with colleagues in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to advance the work of making sure every person in our country has a chance to pursue the American Dream by securing a good job, affording quality health care, accessing higher education, and saving for retirement.

“Together, we will continue to fight for the opportunities that help more of our people reach the middle class and make it in America. And together we will continue to push for comprehensive immigration reform that recognizes America’s historic role as a beacon of hope for all around the world who yearn for ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.’

“May this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month be one of joy, reflection, and the celebration of a vibrant set of cultures that continue to enrich our country.”
