WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the House unanimously adopted H. Res. 256, reaffirming Congress's commitment to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and member states:

“Today, the House unanimously adopted a resolution making clear America’s steadfast support for the NATO alliance.  There is no greater tool for preserving America’s security than the collective defense enshrined in the NATO treaty, which underpins our ironclad transatlantic relationships and ensures that we work closely with our allies, including the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, to safeguard international security.

“No matter what this President falsely claims, we gain as much from our membership in the alliance as our NATO partners.  Allies will always have some disagreements, but this resolution makes clear Congress’s strong, unambiguous, and unwavering commitment to NATO as member states face together the very real threats posed by Russia and others who would seek to divide and thus weaken us.  They will not succeed in those efforts.”
