WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the World Trade Organzation ruling that duties imposed by China on the U.S. auto industry in 2011 violated international trade rules:

“Today, the World Trade Organization issued an important ruling that makes clear that China must cease its unfair practice of imposing trade barriers against America’s auto industry.  Promoting U.S. exports is a central focus of the Make It In America plan, and that includes standing up for the rights of American businesses as set forth under our trade agreements.  That is exactly what the Obama Administration has done, fighting to make certain that our global competitors are not breaking the rules to the disadvantage of American companies and the workers who build the products they sell around the world.  I will continue to work with the Administration and with my colleagues in Congress to ensure that we always stand firm in demanding a fair and level playing field for America’s exports.”
