WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on President Trump's decision to continue the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and rescind the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) program:

"While the Trump Administration has announced it will continue President Obama’s DACA, which marked its fifth anniversary this week, and allow DREAMers who were brought to this country as children to continue working here legally, his decision to end the DAPA program means that undocumented immigrant families will continue to live in fear of being split apart.  Just as DACA has been compassionate to youth, we must be compassionate in our approach to their families, who have demonstrated they respect our laws and are contributing to building America's future. That's why the only real solution is to fix our broken immigration system through comprehensive immigration reform. I urge the President and Republicans to work with Democrats toward that end."
