WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after President Obama signed the Small Business Jobs Act into law:

“Today, President Obama signed into law the Small Business Jobs Act, an important step to boost our small businesses and contribute to our economic recovery. The bill creates a small business lending fund to help businesses access the capital they need to grow and hire new workers; it also includes $12 billion in small business tax cuts and funds export-promoting programs that help American companies compete abroad. The Small Business Jobs Act is fully paid for, so it does not add to the deficit—and it is projected to create or save hundreds of thousands of jobs.

“Democrats’ support for small businesses stands in stark opposition to Republicans’ record of voting against almost every job-creating bill that has come to the floor of the 111th Congress. Republican opposition to this small business bill was, again, nearly unanimous. While Democrats continue to fight for middle-class job creation, Republicans are demonstrating that they intend to return to what they call ‘the exact same agenda’ of the Bush Administration.”
