WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after Congressman Mike McIntyre (NC-07) announced he will not seek reelection:

“For seventeen years, Mike McIntyre has served the people of North Carolina’s Seventh District with distinction, giving them the full measure of his energy and intellect.  I have been privileged to call Mike my colleague and my friend, and I have had the opportunity to witness up close his devotion to protecting the security of our nation and promoting opportunity for all Americans throughout his service in Congress.  Mike has played an important role in promoting bipartisanship and fiscal responsibility as a leading member of the Blue Dog Coalition in our caucus, and I know he will be greatly missed by members on both sides of the aisle.  I join in wishing Mike and his family all the best as he prepares to retire from Congress at the end of this session and pursue the next phase in his career.”
