WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after Congressman George Miller, Ranking Member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, announced he will not seek reelection:

“I join in thanking Rep. George Miller for his nearly four decades of service to the people of California in the House of Representatives.  Throughout his tenure in office, George has been a leading advocate for our nation’s teachers and students.  I was proud to partner with George when Democrats were in the Majority to pass statutory Pay-As-You-Go legislation to ensure that Congress pays for what it buys– legislation that George had championed for many years.  I was also privileged to work with him over the years on education reform, improving access to affordable health care, and conserving our nation’s natural resources.  I wish George and his family all the best as he prepares to retire from Congress at the end of the session.”
