WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement after Rep. Jay Inslee announced that he is resigning his seat in Congress to focus on the Governor's race in Washington:

"I want to thank Jay Inslee for his years of service in Congress. He is a good friend, and it has been an honor to be his colleague in the House. Jay is a leader on clean energy issues, working for policies that create clean energy jobs and protect our environment during his time on the Energy and Commerce Committee and the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. He has also fought to expand access to affordable health care, increase port security, and provide resources for our nation's veterans. He will be missed in the House, and I wish him and his family all the best as he continues to fight for the people of Washington state."
