WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after Rep. Rick Nolan (MN-08) announced he would not run for re-election:

“Throughout his career in public service, Rick Nolan has fought for jobs and opportunity for Minnesota workers and their families. Elected as a reformer after Watergate, he worked hard to restore transparency and accountability to government while clearing red tape for small businesses to grow. After a successful career in the private sector and in state and local government, Rick returned to Congress to ensure that our economic recovery from the Great Recession wouldn’t leave hardworking Minnesotans behind.

“For Northern Minnesota farmers, miners, and manufacturing workers, Rick Nolan has been their champion in Washington. While I am sad to see him leave the House, I thank him for his service to Minnesota, to the Congress, and to our nation.  I wish Rick and his wife Mary all the best as he prepares to retire after the end of this term.”
