WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today commemorating Red Cross Month, which is observed in March:
“For more than 127 years, the American Red Cross has been responding to natural disasters and assisting families in times of need.
“This month, we honor over a million Red Cross volunteers and employees who mobilize relief for victims of disaster every year. Their generosity and spirit of service provide comfort and hope during the darkest days of many people’s lives. Their sacrifice symbolizes what makes America great.
“This year, the Red Cross also played a special role in the inaugural events for our 44th President, Barack Obama. Their service to the District of Columbia in a public safety capacity helped make this a memorable and safe event for all who attended.”
