WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the Obama Administration’s announcement on auto emission standards:

“Today, President Obama announced his administration will work to extend passenger vehicle fuel economy and emissions rules through 2025, along with his commitment to develop new standards for large trucks. Regularly setting fuel economy standards for cars and trucks is important not only for our environment, but for our economy and national security: they encourage money-saving energy efficiency, contribute to our country’s drive to be the world’s leader in the development of the next generation of vehicles, and reduce our dangerous dependence on foreign oil. These standards—along with the administration’s investment in a new generation of efficient plug-in vehicles and Congress’s effort to pass job-creating energy legislation—are an important contribution to our economic strength, national security, and ability to compete in the 21st century.”
