WASHINGTON, DC – Today, House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) issued the following statement regarding the passing of longtime political journalist Robert Novak:

“Today we pause in memory of Robert Novak, who died of brain cancer at the age of 78. Novak was a Washington institution, the author of a syndicated column that ran for four and a half decades, a familiar presence on television, and one of the nation’s most prominent conservative voices. Naturally, we agreed on very little—but I have sincere respect for Robert Novak’s dedication and prolific career. His lifelong passion for politics struck a chord with many Americans. It was a passion he said began when his father let him stay up late to listen to a radio broadcast of the 1940 Republican Convention, and it carried him to the center of the Washington scene. My thoughts today are with his family.”
