WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the mid-session review issued by the Office of Management and Budget:
“While it is encouraging that the deficit this year is projected to be smaller than originally expected, long-term deficits remain far too high.  Democrats have worked to restore fiscal balance by returning the ‘pay as you go’ principle to law, creating a bipartisan commission to look for solutions to bring down the deficit, enacting health care reform to slow the growth of costs and produce long-term savings, and cracking down on waste, fraud, and abuse in government.  We know there is more work to be done, and we will continue our efforts to strengthen the economy while also setting a long-term path for fiscal discipline.  Job creation remains our top priority, so while projected lower unemployment rates and higher GDP growth is positive news, Democrats will keep taking action to put Americans back to work.”
