WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the conclusion of the Nuclear Security Summit:
“The Nuclear Security Summit that concluded today brought the world together to fight a shared enemy, one that was not sufficiently addressed under years of Republican leadership.  The threat posed by terrorists building or obtaining a nuclear weapon is one of the most dangerous threats we face, so I am encouraged that the nations at the Summit agreed to secure nuclear material in their countries within four years, and that they were encouraged to strengthen and implement international treaties.  President Obama has obtained commitments from key partner nations that will be critical to our efforts to keep our nation – and the world – safe from nuclear weapons.  This Summit is another example of how Democrats are fighting terrorism in a strategic way, and it has moved us closer to our goal of stopping the spread of nuclear weapons and securing vulnerable nuclear materials.”
