WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the Obama Administration’s new National Export Initiative:

“Today, Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke announced details of the Obama Administration’s new National Export Initiative, a plan to promote job creation and America’s economic competitiveness by strengthening the export market for American goods. The goals of the National Export Initiative are ambitious, but reachable with a dedicated effort by Congress and the Administration: the plan aims to double American exports in the next five years, supporting two million jobs.
“The Obama Administration’s strategy calls on the government to strongly advocate for the interests of American companies selling abroad, to connect them with new opportunities and customers, to expand their access to credit, and to rigorously enforce the international agreements that protect free and fair markets. I applaud the Administration on this coordinated effort to create American jobs and strengthen our recovery, and I look forward to working with the President and my colleagues in Congress to implement it.”
