WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in recognition of Jewish American Heritage Month:

“This May, as we celebrate Jewish American Heritage Month, we have the opportunity to reflect on the long, rich history of Jewish Americans. Since 1654, when they first arrived to this nation in search of a place to practice their religion freely, the Jewish community has enriched our culture, bolstered our economy and contributed to all aspects of our society.

"Despite facing prejudice, Jewish Americans have thrived and made notable contributions across our society, from art, medicine, and science to law, business, and public service. And their commitment to civil and human rights strengthens our nation and serves as an inspiration to all Americans. Let us honor the role they have played in shaping our country; without their leadership and vast contributions, our nation would not be what it is today.”
