WASHINGTON, DC - Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after President Obama signed the Intelligence Authorization Act into law:
"Today President Obama signed into law the Intelligence Authorization Act, the first one to become law in six years.  This law will strengthen our national security, and its enactment today demonstrates Democrats' unyielding commitment to keeping our nation safe. This legislation contains a host of important reforms that will contribute to America's national security and the responsible oversight of our intelligence community. It gives the intelligence community the tools it needs to keep America safe, while its creation of an inspector general for the intelligence community, its strengthening of the Government Accountability Office's intelligence oversight, and its reforms to the Congressional briefing and acquisition processes all enhance Congress' ability to hold the intelligence community accountable. I commend Chairman Reyes of the House Intelligence Committee and his staff for securing the bill's passage, and I thank President Obama for signing it into law."
