House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the implementation of the First Step Agreement on Iran's nuclear program:

"Today's actions by Iran to move forward with implementing its end of the agreement reached in November are a positive step, but the United States and its allies must continue to closely monitor Iran's nuclear weapons program to ensure that Iran's leaders completely comply with international calls to end its pursuit of nuclear arms. If they fail to do so, they ought to be met with increased sanctions - and they must know with certainty that all options remain on the table to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran. It remains the policy of the United States that Iran shall not obtain nuclear weapons, and I remain strongly supportive of that policy."
