WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the House passed the Helping Families Save Their Homes Act, which now goes to the President for his signature:
“Today, the House passed the Helping Families Save Their Homes Act of 2009, an important piece of legislation that will help responsible families avoid foreclosure, while stabilizing our housing market. The bill provides greater incentives for mortgage lenders and servicers to modify homeowners’ mortgage terms and helps ensure the availability of credit that will make modifications possible. All of these provisions are valuable steps against the foreclosure epidemic that triggered this recession and continues to leave families displaced and property values damaged for many Americans. Passing this bill is an important part of our economic recovery, and I look forward to seeing President Obama sign it.”
