WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement this evening in response to Humana's recent decision to exit the health insurance marketplace exchanges in 2018

"Today's announcement by Humana that it will exit the health insurance marketplaces nationwide in 2018 is alarming because it demonstrates that the market uncertainty being created by Republican efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act has a real-world impact on American consumers.

"By continuing to pursue a repeal of the Affordable Care Act - without a real plan to replace it - Republicans are effectively forcing insurers to exit the marketplaces, a trend that will continue unless their rhetoric and policies change.  This must come to an end.  It's time that Republicans admit what everyone already knows: that they have no workable replacement for the Affordable Care Act, and that their irresponsible actions will lead to fewer choices and higher premiums for Americans."
