WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Department of Health and Human Services issued enrollment numbers for the first month of the health insurance marketplaces’ open-enrollment period:
“The data released this afternoon by the Department of Health and Human Services shows that there is a clear interest and demand for affordable, quality health care coverage. Americans are signing up for that coverage through the federal and state-based health insurance marketplaces in order to take advantage of the Affordable Care Act’s many benefits, with more than 1.5 million Americans already applying for coverage.
“Like any major program that is rolled out nation-wide, enrollment in these health insurance marketplaces is expected to begin slowly and grow over time. I look forward to seeing further data as the open-enrollment period continues and as the work progresses on improving HealthCare.gov and the experience of its users."
