WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after a Federal Judge granted a preliminary injuction stopping the Trump Administration from ending Temporary Protected Status for refugees living in the United States:

“Yesterday’s court ruling was a relief in the short term for refugees with temporary protected status, but Congress must still provide a long-term legislative solution. Those who came here escaping natural disasters or violent instability and were given refuge in our country are now living in fear of the Trump Administration deporting them to places where their lives are still threatened. I have met with individuals here under temporary protected status and want to thank Casa de Maryland for its hard work on their behalf.  We must prevent these and other immigrant families from being split apart by this Administration’s misguided and dangerous policies. I will continue to monitor this issue closely and work with my colleagues in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and Congressional Black Caucus to push back against such efforts and work toward a long-term legislative solution that keeps families together.”
