WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on Equal Pay Day:
“Today on Equal Pay Day, we recognize the damaging impact that pay discrimination has on every woman in every workplace in America. In this time of national economic crisis, many Americans are struggling to make ends meet, and unjustified inequality makes it even tougher for women.
“In January, I was present at the White House when President Obama signed the historic Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act into law, the first law of his Administration. This legislation protects workers who are subjected to pay discrimination and marks another step forward in the fight for full equality.
“As a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, I believe we must make significant strides toward equal pay for all workers regardless of gender, race, or religion. Women across this nation are working to support themselves and their families. They deserve our support and we are determined to continue working toward achieving the goal of equal pay.”
