WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today following the announcement that Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin will depart in 2019:

“I join in thanking Chad Griffin for his leadership of the Human Rights Campaign over the past seven years. Under his steady hand, HRC played a central role in securing marriage equality and in growing LGBT civic engagement, which resulted in a record number of LGBT candidates running for and winning election to public office this month. It has been a pleasure working closely with him to advance the goals that HRC and House Democrats will continue to pursue, including passage of the Equality Act and other measures to ensure equal treatment under law for all in our country. I wish Chad well in his next endeavors, and in the next Congress I look forward to continuing to support the vital work done by HRC.”
