WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today following reports that GI Bill benefits have been delayed for veterans following technical errors at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs:

“It is appalling that veterans have been made to wait for months to receive their GI Bill benefits, with some even forced to move out of their homes or face bankruptcy as a result.  This is an unnecessary and preventable crisis, and the Department of Veterans Affairs must take immediate action to remedy it.  Congress has a responsibility to hold the Trump Administration accountable for its mismanagement, and tomorrow’s hearing being held by the Veterans Affairs Committee is an important step.  The Administration must fix this problem and ensure that our veterans receive the benefits they have earned.”
