WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the House Committee on Science and Technology passed the America COMPETES Reauthorization Act last night with bipartisan support:
“As Democrats continue to fight for the middle class and create jobs, the COMPETES Act is a key part of that effort.  I will bring this legislation to the House Floor for a vote before the Memorial Day District Work Period, and I hope it receives bipartisan support just as it did in committee.  The COMPETES Act will invest in science, technology, engineering, and math education, as well as invest in research agencies, so that we continue to be the world leader in research and development – creating good jobs for Americans into the future.  I want to congratulate the Science and Technology Committee, under the leadership of Chairman Bart Gordon, for taking action on this important bill.”
