WASHINGTON – House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today following Chairman Bill Thomas’s statement on the House Floor regarding his conduct on Friday, July 18th during a Ways and Means mark-up:

“I believe that Mr. Thomas’s statement on the House Floor was appropriate and I appreciate his sentiments.

“However, one statement does not comity make.  The real issue is whether the House Majority will begin to accord fair treatment to the Minority, not just in the Ways and Means Committee, but in every committee and on the House Floor.  I look forward to working with the Majority towards that end.”
