WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement on today's quarterly report from the White House Council of Economic Advisors on Recovery Act job creation:
“Today’s report from the White House Council of Economic Advisors is further evidence that the Recovery Act is working to create jobs. The latest study of the Recovery Act’s effectiveness shows that it is responsible for between 2.5 million and 3.6 million jobs, and on pace to create or save 3.5 million jobs by the end of the year. The study also shows that every $1 in Recovery Act spending stimulated $3 in private spending.
“After Republican policies drove our economy into the ditch, Democrats have worked hard to get it back out. Today’s report shows that, while our recovery is far from complete, we are moving in the right direction. As long as millions remain out of work, Congress has more work to do. But the contrast is clear: Democrats have put jobs first, while Republicans have stood against nearly every job-creating measure for the last 18 months in the hopes that they will reap the benefits in the November election.”
