WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement on the Congressional Budget Office's Budget and Economic Outlook, released today:

“The Budget and Economic Outlook report released this morning by the Congressional Budget Office makes it clear that, while our deficits have fallen significantly and our economy has grown since President Obama took office, Congress must work together to achieve deficit reduction while ensuring our economic gains are shared by the middle class.  A failure to put our nation on a more sustainable path puts us at risk of seeing deficits increase, according to the CBO’s baseline projection.  The first step toward any sustainable fiscal future must be to ensure that our nation pays its bills and avoids a catastrophic default later this month.  I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pursue serious and responsible deficit reduction and to ensure that we pay our bills.”
