WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement tonight after bipartisan Members of the House and Senate met with President Obama to discuss health care reform:
“Today’s bipartisan meeting gave way to an important exchange of ideas and was an opportunity for the American people to hear how both Democrats and Republicans are proposing to reform health care. There were substantive differences to be sure, but there were also areas of agreement - many of which are already included in the House and Senate-passed bills and the President’s proposal. We hope that based upon this discussion we can move forward to accomplish the objectives we all agree on– the need to contain rising costs bearing down on American families and small businesses, reform insurance industry practices to make health care work better for everyone, and slow the growth of health care spending and its impact on the federal budget.”
