WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (MD) released the following statement on S. 3473, which will be voted on in the House today, to permit the U.S. Coast Guard to draw advance funding from the Oil Spill Liability trust fund. The bill passed the Senate yesterday by unanimous consent.
"The legislation the House is considering today enables the Coast Guard to draw advances from the Oil Spill Liability trust fund to continue the Federal response to the Gulf oil spill. Taxpayers can be assured that BP and other responsible parties will be billed for all spill containment and clean up costs. It is critical that we pass this emergency measure to ensure the uninterrupted continuation of Federal response operations and that BP will foot the bill for that response. I look forward to its passage so we can send it to the President to be signed into law."
