WASHINGTON – House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today regarding the Alternative Minimum Tax:

“Ways and Means Committee Chairman Rangel will introduce this week a bill to protect middle-income families from the Alternative Minimum Tax, as Democrats have consistently supported doing as long as this has been an issue.

“As soon as the Chairman’s legislation is ready, I plan to swiftly bring it before the House for consideration.

“Republicans have added trillions of dollars to the debt by failing to pay for legislation, such as enacting the necessary AMT patches each year.  In contrast, as we have done all year, Democrats are determined to enact a fiscally responsible AMT bill that respects our pledge to follow pay-as-you-go rules.”
