WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after Senate Republicans blocked debate on Wall Street reform legislation for the second day in a row:
“For a second day, Senate Republicans have once again chosen to protect the interests of Wall Street over the interests of families on Main Street.  Rather than stand with Democrats to prevent a financial crisis like the one that plunged our economy into recession, Senate Republicans are instead blocking needed reform that will hold Wall Street accountable.  Despite their obstruction, Democrats will keep fighting for the middle class, so that in the future they are not asked to foot the bill for Wall Street’s excesses.  We will not allow this legislation to be watered down or weakened.”
