WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today:
“A troubling story in the New York Times today illustrates how the economic crisis is taking a serious, and in some cases dangerous, toll on the everyday lives of many Americans – with some forced to forego necessary prescription drugs so that they can pay for food or keep a roof over their heads.
“Ensuring access to affordable health care is a priority of Congress. Democrats have fought to lower drug prices for seniors by giving the government the power to negotiate with drug companies and to provide coverage for millions of eligible children under the Children’s Health Insurance Program. We will continue to address these critical issues directly, as well as through our economic recovery efforts, so that Americans will not have to choose between their physical well being and paying their bills.”
