WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement tonight congratulating the newly-elected leaders of the Congressional Black Caucus for the 115th Congress:

“I join in congratulating Rep. Cedric Richmond on his election as Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) for the 115th Congress, as well as Vice Chairs Andre Carson and Karen Bass, Secretary Brenda Lawrence, and Whip Gwen Moore.  I am certain that Rep. Richmond and the rest of the CBC leadership team will bring energy and strong leadership to a group that is rightly known as the ‘conscience of the Congress’ as it continues to pursue equality, justice, and opportunity for all Americans.  I’ve been proud to work closely with the Congressional Black Caucus to push for the restoration of voting rights, aid for the beleaguered community of Flint, criminal justice reform, and policies that make good jobs and economic advancement accessible to every hardworking American, regardless of his or her background.  I look forward to continuing this important work together in the years ahead.”
