WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement in recognition of tomorrow's 65th anniversary of D-Day:
“Sixty five years ago tomorrow, American, British, Canadian, and Free French forces launched the amphibious invasion of Normandy and the campaign that would liberate Europe from Nazi domination. Before the invasion, General Dwight Eisenhower wrote to the troops, ‘The eyes of the world are upon you...I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle.’ That confidence was well-placed: the veterans of D-Day, both those who lived and who lost their lives on the beaches, left a legacy of courage that endures and inspires to this day. Let us take a moment tomorrow to honor them, and to thank our troops who still serve in harm’s way today and proudly carry that legacy forward.”
