WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the House passed the Expedited CARD Reform for Consumers Act this afternoon:
“Today, Democrats kept up the fight to protect consumers who are struggling to recover from the deep recession.  During an economic downturn, Americans need to know they can rely on dependable credit – not be taken advantage of by credit card companies looking to make a quick profit.  By moving up the implementation date of reforms passed earlier this year that end abusive practices like interest rate hikes on existing balances and double-cycle billing, Democrats are ensuring a fair system for responsible consumers.”
