WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (Md.) released the following statement announcing his intention to bring the DC Voting Rights Act to the House Floor next week. Hoyer previously said the bill could be voted on as early as next week.
“I intend to bring the DC Voting Rights Act to the House Floor for a vote next week. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton and DC voting rights supporters have strongly expressed to me that now is the time to end the injustice denying Americans living in our nation’s capital full voting representation in Congress.
“I am hopeful that the House will vote to approve this bill with the bipartisan support it has received in the past. This is an effort that is long overdue – on behalf of the residents of Washington, DC and all Americans who believe that all taxpayers deserve representation in Congress.”
