This week, the House of Representatives came together in unity and bipartisanship following an attack at Wednesday’s practice for the annual Congressional Baseball Game. My thoughts and prayers remain with Majority Whip Steve Scalise and all those who were injured in the shooting. I was proud to wear a Team Scalise shirt in solidary with Whip Scalise at the baseball game last night, and I’m glad that the trophy will be placed in his office. While we might stand on opposite sides of the aisle, we are friends, colleagues, and Americans who are committed to serving the public, and I look forward to seeing him again in the halls of Congress.

This week was also another reminder of the courage and dedication of Capitol Police officers. On Wednesday, David Bailey and Crystal Griner responded heroically and saved the lives of many. I am immensely grateful to them and to all Capitol Police, who protect Members, staff, and visitors to the Capitol each and every day.  I am pleased that the House passed a resolution commending Capitol Police for their vigilance, professionalism, and heroism.

We may respectfully disagree with one another on policy, but we will continue to stand together to serve the American people.

Sincerely yours,

Steny H. Hoyer
