Whip's Report E-Newsletter ● Make It In America
For Immediate Release:
April 12, 2013

This week, I led House Democrats in unveiling our Make It In America plan for the 113th Congress that would strengthen our manufacturing sector to create well paying jobs and restore our economy.  This Congress, the Make It In America plan focuses on four priorities - adopting and pursuing a national manufacturing strategy, promoting the export of U.S. goods, encouraging businesses to bring jobs and innovation back to the U.S., and training and securing a 21st century workforce. Our plan includes several bipartisan proposals, and I will remain committed to working across the aisle to support American manufacturing businesses and create jobs.

Unfortunately instead of working on job creation, this week House Republicans focused on a partisan bill that would weaken the National Labor Relations Board and hurt middle class families.  Instead of undermining workers' rights, Congress should be working towards common-sense proposals that support our businesses and strengthen our economy.

On Wednesday, President Barack Obama unveiled his budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2014.  This proposal represents a serious compromise to reduce deficits in a balanced way.  With budget proposals now offered by Republicans, Democrats, and the President, I am urging my colleagues to move forward with the budget process by appointing members to go to conference and negotiate a budget solution for Fiscal Year 2014.  I remain hopeful that we can find a compromise while working toward a big and balanced plan to responsibly reduce our deficits and restore our nation’s fiscal sustainability.

Sincerely yours,
