MESSAGE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC WHIP
This week, the House of Representatives passed a continuing resolution that funds the government through April 28. While I’m pleased that the House took action to prevent a government shutdown, I believe that passing yet another continuing resolution is not the right approach to funding our government. It is deeply disappointing that House Republicans have failed on their promise to return to regular order. I urge Republicans to work with Democrats in the next Congress to prioritize our resources and put the needs of the American people first.
Yesterday, the House passed a water resources development bill, which includes provisions to address the drinking water crisis in Flint, Michigan. This was an important step to take to provide long-overdue assistance to the people of Flint.
Finally, as we look ahead to the 115th Congress, Republicans must work with Democrats to govern responsibly. The 114th Congress was one of the least productive and most divisive Congresses. From failing to pass a budget to wasting millions in taxpayer dollars on political witch hunts, House Republicans have continued to ignore the priorities of the American people. With their party now controlling the House, the Senate, and the White House in the 115th Congress, Democrats will hold Republicans accountable and resist their efforts to pursue a divisive and controversial agenda next year.
