We mentioned last week that a number of Senate Republicans are joining Democrats in calling on the House Republican leadership to continue the budget process by appointing conferees. We’re glad to see the number is growing, according to CQ:
Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA): “I don’t have a prerequisite to going to conference. We’ve always talked about needing budgets. I doubt if we can reconcile it between the two bodies. But it would be worth trying.”
Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN): “I think we should [go to conference]. For four years, we’ve been waiting for a budget. To now keep from appointing conferees is not consistent.”
How many Republicans will it take to convince House Republican leaders that following ‘regular order’ on the budget is the right thing to do? They must be getting pretty lonely.
